Athletics News 2011 (So far…!) Sportshall News As a result of finishing second at the Central London Sportshall Finals, the Year 8 Sportshall Team qualified for the Greater London Sportshall Finals, which were held at Cryatsal Palace National Sports Centre on Wednesday 6th April 2011. Here they faced even tougher competition from schools out as far as Surrey, Essex and Middlesex. In the team was: Anthony Ahatty, Adeshola Onasanya, Jayden Gray, Ademola Lookman, Jayden Cross, Ishmael Abdul-Karim, Kweku Lucan, and Ezekiel Olusanya. They competed very well and were rewarded with a fourth place finish. This is the first time any team from STAC has been in this competition, and it certainly will not be the last!
Track and Field News The first outdoor competition of 2011 took place at Dulwich College and was the Southwark Year 10 and 11 Championships. Here 15 boys competed against other boys, in the same year group as them, from many of the other schools in the borough. The best performances came from: Reece Young 100m Hurdles Ibrahim Abdulkarim 100m Marvin Popoola 100m Richmond Atinga 1500m Tyshan Meghie Discus Royan Moore Javelin
Following this competition came the first round of the English Schools Cup. This was held at Croydon Arena. We entered two teams, Junior Boys (Year 7 & 8s), and Inter Boys (Year 9 & 10). After a tough days competition the Junior Boys team finished 6th, and the Inter Boys came 4th. Sadly neither team qualified for the second round. Outstanding performances came from: Junior Boys Anthony Ahatty Hurdles 13.1secs Abu Soloku Hurdles 13.5secs Ishmail Abdul-Karim 100m 11.7secs Ezekiel Olusanya 100m 11.9secs Kweku Lucan 200m 25.6secs

After the English Schools Cup competition we took a team of 20+ athletes to the Southwark Year 7, 8 and 9 Championships, which were also held at Croydon Arena. This competition was a display in sprinting from STAC! We came first and second in every sprint race and we won every relay race! Outstanding performances came from: Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Abu Soloku Anthony Ahatty Zanson Plummer Ismail Abdulkarim Samuel Kale Emmanuel Onariese Because of their excellent performances, at this competition Zanson and Samuel have been selected to compete for Southwark at the London Youth Games, Saturday 18th June 2011 at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. This week we sent two teams to the London Schools Combined Events Championships, which were at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. This is traditionally the hardest competition the athletes at STAC face each year, and this year was no different. In this competition the athletes have to compete in Hurdles, Long Jump, Discus, Javelin, High Jump, Shot Putt, and the 1500m! The Junior Boys team was made up by a majority of the high achieving Sportshall team, they found their competition hard as they had to compete against some boys who were a year older than them. But the experience will stand them in very good stead for the rest of this season, and for next year too. The Inter Boys team consisted of the Year 10 boys who have been training regularly with me at Battersea Park. As a result of their training they were very well equipped for the competition. The result was they came away with two medals! Reece Young won the competition, and Tyshan Meghie was third!
YEAR 7 LONDON FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS The Year 7 Football team won the Inner London Cup on Wednesday 18th May at Dulwich Hamlet FC, against Kingsdale School. 1-0 down at Halftime, the boys produced fantastic second half performance, dominating the play and eventually winning 2-1. The support for our school was excellent with many staff and parents in attendance. Stand out performances from Abu Soloku and Captain Edson Oliveira, ensured that the trophy returned to STAC (where it belongs). Next season is going to be an exciting time, with the possibility of retaining the trophy ingrained in the managers and players minds.
